Russian Upper House's Head responds to rumors about resignation of Melikov

| News, North Caucasus

The head of the Federation Council, Valentina Matviyenko, who was in Dagestan, denied that her visit was connected with the upcoming resignation of the head of the federal republic, Sergei Melikov.

Matviyenko told Melikov himself that he would not go anywhere. "You will not leave this position until you solve all the assigned tasks. The President of Russia did not just make a bet on you. He knows your potential best. Good luck with your work, and we will do our best to help you!" Matviyenko said.

"There is a busy program ahead. Valentina Ivanovna plans to study on the spot the implementation of the resolution On State Support for the Social and Economic Development of the Republic of Dagestan, adopted last year following the results of the Days of Dagestan in the Federation Council. Today she will participate in the events within the framework of the celebration of the anniversary of our poetess Fazu Aliyeva, whom she knew personally. In the evening, we will have an opportunity to discuss topical problems of the republic's development," Melikov said.

Matviyenko and Melikov visited several sites and events in Kaspiysk and Makhachkala. They held a meeting where they discussed the restoration of the Kizlyar pastures, water management activities on the Terek River and Achikol lakes, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure for the North-South corridor, and the construction of the All-Russian Children's Center Dagestan.

Matviyenko noted the high rates of tourism development in the federal republic. She drew attention to the problems of corruption and the need to combat unfinished buildings. She prioritizes health and welfare issues. She criticized the Ministry of Health for lacking equipment in obstetric stations, where paramedics carried water with buckets. She wondered why this was not reported to the prosecutor's office.

Matviyenko also did not like the ugly advertising with giant advertising banners on the way to Kaspiysk, and she drew a comparison with Shanghai fifty years ago. Matviyenko believes that Makhachkala should be made attractive.

"Dagestan has huge opportunities," said the chairwoman of the Federation Council and promised to support the federal republic. Among the priority areas she named the modernization of communal infrastructure, treatment facilities, and providing people with clean water. Matviyenko noted that the region should be included in all federal projects. She believes a separate regional tourism development program can be adopted in Dagestan.

Sergei Melikov asked Matviyenko to support the transport projects: the expansion of the federal road Kavkaz, the development of the Makhachkala Sea trade port, and an increase in the throughput capacity of border points in the south of Dagestan.

The question of whether Melikov will stay in office was discussed during the day by telegram channels. In particular, Brief wrote that Matviyenko's meeting with Sergei Melikov should reduce the tension around the head of the republic in terms of discussing the instability of his position against the backdrop of widely circulated and discussed information about his imminent resignation.

In response, Ask Rasul expressed doubt that the arrival of Matviyenko postponed his imminent resignation. According to the author of the channel, the work of Sergei Melikov is increasingly associated with the disastrous period of the reign of Ramazan Abdulatipov.
