Russia's MFA Clarifies Moscow's Stance on Baku-Yerevan Corridor

| News, Politics, Armenia

Moscow’s position regarding unblocking communications between Baku and Yerevan is clear and well-known, stated Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, during her weekly briefing.

Zakharova emphasized that discussions on the route connecting the western regions of Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan through Armenia are taking place within the framework of the tripartite working group, which the vice prime ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan co-chair. She highlighted that the work of this group is proceeding based on the tripartite agreements, ensuring that any agreements are reached and implemented by mutual consent and on terms acceptable to all parties involved, including neighboring countries.

“We have observed statements from Iranian officials expressing concerns about the proposed 'Zangezur corridor' and their reasons for this stance,” Maria Zakharova noted. “It would be advisable to reach out to Tehran directly for further clarification on their position.”

She added that Moscow’s approach is based on the principle that agreements will be implemented through mutual consent and on terms acceptable to all parties involved, including Armenia, Azerbaijan, and neighboring countries like Russia, Iran, and Turkey.
