Secretary Blinken Advocates for Armenia-Azerbaijan Border Delimitation in Recent Talks
Over the weekend, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken engaged in phone conversations with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan, once more expressing support for their border delimitation agreement, prompting continuing protests in Armenia.
As reported by the Armenian press office, during the conversation with the Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan, Blinken addressed various topics concerning the Armenia-US bilateral relations agenda, the discussions held in Brussels on April 5, and the ongoing peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In the context of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process, both parties underscored the significance of the agreements reached during the quadrilateral meeting in Prague on October 6. Specifically, the acknowledgment of each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, as outlined in the Alma-Ata Declaration, and the initiation of demarcation and delimitation processes based on this declaration lay the groundwork for the signing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Peace Treaty.
Additionally, they deliberated on the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative. PM Pashinyan reiterated that it embodies the agreements established in Brussels in July 2023 between President of the European Council Charles Michel, Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, and himself. These agreements stipulate the opening of regional communications, contingent upon the sovereignty and jurisdiction of countries, adhering to the principle of equality and reciprocity. President Michel’s statement following the aforementioned meeting reflects these arrangements.
