Separatist Abkhazia Boosts Military Capabilities Amid Rising Regional Tensions
On January 29, separatist Abkhazia's de-facto Defense Minister Vladimir Anua reported to de-facto President Aslan Bzhania on the progress of combat and operational training of the Armed Forces and the main directions of the army's development. "Ensuring military security is the most important task for the country's leadership and the population as a whole. Given the current situation and the fighting going on in Ukraine, the possibility of unleashing military conflicts is increasing," the de-facto president said.
Anua presented information on equipping the Armed Forces with modern equipment and weapons, equipping territorial defense headquarters, and improving military infrastructure.
Bzhania raised the issue of the formation of reserve brigades' control bodies. "We have been coming to this for a long time. Now, we have already established the management bodies of seven reserve brigades and a regiment formed for wartime on a territorial basis in cities and districts. These are brigades permanently functioning in peacetime and ensuring their preparation, deployment, and bringing them to combat readiness within the timeframes established by the plans," the minister emphasized.
