
Shehbaz Sharif Thanks Azerbaijan For Solidarity, Emphasizes Commitment To Sovereignty And Economic Ties

On May 14, Shehbaz Sharif, the Pakistani Prime Minister, received Khazar Farhadov, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Pakistan.
During the meeting, Sharif conveyed his deep gratitude to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and the Azerbaijani people for their steadfast solidarity and support for Pakistan, describing it as a reflection of the strong friendship and brotherhood between the two nations. Addressing regional developments and the ceasefire agreement reached, Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s determination to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity against any future aggression.
Speaking about the advancement of Pakistan-Azerbaijan strategic relations, the prime minister expressed satisfaction with the positive direction of bilateral cooperation. He highlighted President Aliyev’s historic visit to Pakistan in July of the previous year as a significant milestone for opening new avenues of collaboration in economy, trade, and investment. Recalling his own visit to Baku in February, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to elevating fraternal relations into a mutually beneficial economic partnership.
For his part, Farhadov emphasized that Azerbaijan and Pakistan have consistently stood together as friendly and brotherly nations. He stated that President Aliyev places great importance on strengthening fraternal ties between the two countries, adding that bilateral relations have been rapidly expanding in recent years.
Notably, Azerbaijan has expressed strong support for Pakistan during the recent escalation of tensions with India, particularly following the April 22 attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The Azerbaijani government condemned the Indian military's actions and reaffirmed its solidarity with Pakistan. A formal letter addressed to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conveyed Azerbaijan's unwavering support and emphasized the importance of resolving the conflict through peaceful dialogue.
On May 15, Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a phone conversation with Ilham Aliyev. During the call, Prime Minister Sharif informed President Aliyev about the military attacks launched by India against Pakistan and the subsequent establishment of a ceasefire. He expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its diplomatic and political support during the crisis, describing it as a reflection of the brotherly relations between the two countries. President Aliyev welcomed the ceasefire’s establishment and reaffirmed Azerbaijan’s unwavering support and solidarity with Pakistan. Additionally, the two leaders exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in various fields.
