Six Suspects Detained in Connection with Armed Assault on Azerbaijani MP
Local media reported that six people were detained in connection with the armed attack against MP Fazil Mustafa.
Elshad Hajiyev, the head of the Press Service Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, said that on the night of April 3, in connection with the criminal case against Fazil Mustafa, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the State Security Service and the Prosecutor General's Office conducted a joint operation-search and investigative measures of 4 people. In addition, according to the information from the law enforcement service, two more people were detained.
Although the identity of the detainees has not yet been officially reported, the local media has announced the names of the persons detained in the State Security Service. The media wrote that they are religious people of the Shiite sect connected to Iran. Preliminary information suggests that Sarijanov Azer organized the attack, and he was born in 1976 in the Salyan district. A religious Shia, he made 11 trips to Iran between 2010 and 2019. Shirinov Sabuhi fired at the MP and was born in 1986 in the Aghdam district. He is also a religious Shia and visited Iran 15 times between 2017 and 2022.
Other gang members include Asgarov Elshad, born in 1983 in Baku, who is also a religious Shia and visited Iran nine times between 2013 and 2018. Lastly, Aliyarov Emin was born in 1970 in Baku, a religious Shia who made three trips to Iran between 2004 and 2015.
