South Caucasus Reacts to Moscow Terrorist Attack

Recently, Russia observed a day of mourning and charged four men accused of carrying out a deadly attack at a concert near Moscow, in which 139 people were killed and over 100 remained hospitalized. President Vladimir Putin declared a National Day of Mourning. He vowed to punish those responsible, while Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack. However, Putin implicated that the suspects were trying to escape to Ukraine, a claim Ukraine denied, sparking international condemnation and assertions by the US of no Ukrainian involvement and sharing information with Russia about a planned attack.

On March 23, the Government of Georgia and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia expressed condolences to the Russian Federation following the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall near Moscow.

The Government of Georgia issued a statement on social media, condemning the horrific terrorist attack and expressing sympathy for the Russian people. The Georgian government extended condolences to the victims' families and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Pashinyan also conveyed a message of condolence to President Putin. In his message, Pashinyan expressed sincere sorrow over the tragic loss of innocent lives in the terrorist attack. Armenia strongly condemned the inhumane act and supported Russia during this difficult time. Pashinyan offered his deepest condolences to President Putin and the people of Russia, expressing sympathy and support to the families and relatives of the victims.

Additionally, on March 24, President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan conveyed his condolences to President Putin during a phone call. President Aliyev expressed profound sympathy for the significant loss of life caused by the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall. Azerbaijan strongly condemned the act of terrorism and reaffirmed its solidarity with Russia and the Russian people. President Putin expressed gratitude for the condolences and solidarity extended by President Aliyev, emphasizing the importance of continuing joint efforts in the fight against terrorism.
