Stable Energy Supply Reported in Separatist Abkhazia, Efforts to Address Deficit Ongoing
On May 29, the situation in the energy sector and the implementation of the investment program for the reconstruction of the republic were discussed during a meeting of Aslan Bzhania, the de-facto President of the separatist Abkhazia, with government members and heads of city and district administrations.
Dzhansukh Nanba, the de-facto First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy and Transportation, informed the head of state about the current state of the energy sector. According to him, the collection rate for consumed electricity in April was 48% (27.5% in April 2023), with legal entities at 83% and individuals at 29.8%. "If we talk about information from January to April, the collection rate is 34.8% (78% for legal entities and 17.8% for individuals) and 22% for the same period last year," Nanba stated. When asked by the President about the collection rate for individuals for the past year, Nanba replied that it was 11.7%.
The water level in the Jvar reservoir was 473 meters as of May 29. The total output of Ingur HPP for May amounted to 543 million kWh. "At the moment, the energy supply situation is stable. But within the framework of your instructions to cover the deficit, predicted by the end of the year, appropriate instructions have been given to the Ministry of Finance and Chornomorenergo to reserve funds to pay for the missing amount of electricity," Nanba stated.
The Gulrypsh, Ochamchir, and Tkuarchal districts had the lowest percentage of electricity payment collection, while the Gagra, Sokhumi, and Gali districts led in terms of payment collection.
Bzhania emphasized the need to rectify the situation. "It is necessary to collect 1 billion rubles by the end of the year in order to provide the country with uninterrupted electricity. One billion rubles is money that we could divide among the districts. It is necessary to constantly talk to the heads of villages on this topic, visit the places, check the state of affairs with payment for electricity, and control the situation," Bzhania stated.
