Tehran and Baku Boost Economic Ties, Report Record Trade Turnover
On February 10, Seyyed Jafar Aghayi Marian, the Chargé d’Affaires of the Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan, announced that trade turnover between Iran and Azerbaijan increased by more than 30% in 2024.
Speaking at an official reception in Baku on the occasion of Iran’s National Day, Marian stated that this growth marks a record in bilateral trade. He emphasized that the visit of Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev to Iran and the 16th meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, and Humanitarian Cooperation indicate that 2024 will be even more prosperous for both countries.
Marian highlighted ongoing joint transport, energy, and industry projects, noting their rapid progress. He pointed to key infrastructure initiatives, including the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the Araz corridor, the new Astara border crossing and terminal, and the construction of the Aghband-Kalala bridge, as indicators of the significant potential for economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran.
