Tensions Escalate: Soldiers Killed in Armenia-Azerbaijan Border Clashes

On September 1, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry reported that Taghiyev Mahammad Ramiz, a serviceman of the Azerbaijan Army, was wounded as a result of fire opened by the Armenian armed forces units in Zod/Sotk direction of the state border. 

The Azerbaijan Army’s serviceman, wounded as a result of “provocation committed by the opposing side, was immediately provided with first aid and evacuated to a military medical facility.”

"We declare that the entire responsibility for the consequences of the provocation committed by the Armenian side falls on the military-political leadership of this country," the report added.

On the same day, the ministry added that on the morning of September 1, the Armenian armed forces units in the Zod/Sotk direction launched attack UAVs against the Azerbaijani Army positions stationed in the territory of the Kalbajar region of Azerbaijan.

"Consequently, two more servicemen of the Azerbaijan Army were wounded," the report said.

After several hours, the ministry noted that Armenian armed forces units from the firing positions in Zod/Sotk direction using mortars were subjecting to fire by the Azerbaijan Army positions stationed in the direction of the Kalbajar region.

On September 1, the Armenian Defense Ministry reported that the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, periodically spreading disinformation on August 31 and thereby creating an information basis for another provocation, on September 1, starting from 07:50, opened intense fire on Armenian positions located in the Sotk.

"The units of the Azerbaijani armed forces opened fire from different caliber small arms against the Armenian combat positions in the vicinity of Sotk. The Azerbaijani armed forces also used mortars in the direction of Sotk," the ministry added.

After several hours, it was reported that there were three killed in action and two wounded on the Armenian side as a result of Azerbaijani fire at the Armenian combat outposts near Sotk/Zod.
