Tenth Border Meeting: Armenia, Azerbaijan Advance on Delimitation and Connectivity Efforts
On November 1, Deputy Prime Ministers Mher Grigoryan of Armenia and Shahin Mustafayev of Azerbaijan chaired the tenth meeting of the Commissions on Delimitation and Border Security between their countries. Held at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, this meeting marked a significant step towards implementing the Joint Regulation on Delimitation Activities, signed on August 30, 2024.
According to Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the delegations exchanged notifications, fulfilling the internal processes needed for the agreement’s enforcement. With the receipt of the final notification, the Regulation is set to take effect on November 1, 2024, as stipulated in Article 7.
Discussions focused on prioritizing specific border sections for delimitation work and establishing procedural guidelines. Both parties agreed to determine the date and location for the next meeting through working-level consultations.
Following the commission meeting, Grigoryan and Mustafayev held a separate session to address transport communication issues, signaling a continued dialogue on improving connectivity between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In a post on X dated October 31, US Department of State spokesperson Matthew Miller praised Armenia and Azerbaijan for establishing formal procedures for border delimitation. Miller noted that this step highlights the potential for progress through continuous dialogue between the two nations.
“We support both sides’ work towards a durable, dignified peace for security and prosperity in the region,” the US official said.
