Turkey And Azerbaijan Condemn Israel Over Armenian Genocide Recognition

| News, Politics, Armenia, Azerbaijan

On June 29, Turkish and Azerbaijani authorities reacted to reports that Israel had recognized the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that Israel’s move was politically motivated and accused it of attempting to "conceal its own crimes," referring to allegations of genocide against Palestinians in Gaza that are currently under examination by the International Court of Justice. Ankara emphasized that the decision disregards historical and legal facts and referred to the issue as the "events of 1915." It further declared that Turkey would continue efforts aimed at ending what it described as Israeli policies destabilizing the region and would seek accountability for actions against the Palestinian population.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry also expressed concern over the decision, stating that it represents a "distortion of the historical truth regarding the events of 1915." Baku argued that Israel was turning a complex historical issue into a political instrument detached from legal and scholarly foundations. The ministry called on Israel to reconsider its decision, while reaffirming Azerbaijan’s position of upholding historical truth, respecting international law, and supporting efforts toward lasting peace in the region.
