Turkey Proposes Year Extension for Its Military Presence in Azerbaijan
The draft law on extending the service period of the Turkish Armed Forces in Azerbaijan by one year has been sent to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
According to the information of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, in the draft law sent to the parliament with the signature of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the activities provided for in the Tripartite Declaration signed by Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia on November 10, 2020, are reported to be carried out as a result of the success of the struggle for the liberation of the occupied lands of Azerbaijan.
The document emphasized that after the anti-terrorist operation carried out by Azerbaijan on September 19-20, 2023, the illegal separatist regime in Karabakh and the armed groups associated with them were abolished, and the actual occupation was completely ended.
"Azerbaijan and Armenia have not yet reached an agreement on a peace agreement. Turkey, which strongly supported Azerbaijan from the beginning of the process so that it can defend all its rights, including its territorial integrity, based on international legal norms and legitimate sovereign rights, continues to make important contributions to this process. In order to maintain, strengthen, and facilitate peace and stability in the region, the economic infrastructure is being revived. The activities of the Joint Center established by Turkey and Russia, where the personnel of the Turkish Armed Forces works, are successfully continued. Turkey contributes to the security of the region and building trust between the parties," the draft law adds.
