Türkiye and Azerbaijan Sign 15-Year Gas Deal for Caspian Absheron Field
On January 4, Alparslan Bayraktar, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, announced that Türkiye and Azerbaijan had signed a new natural gas agreement covering 33 billion cubic meters . Bayraktar stated that under the agreement, 2.25 billion cubic meters of natural gas would be supplied annually from the Absheron field in the Caspian Sea over a period of 15 years . He noted that the contract was scheduled to commence in 2029 and extend into the 2040s . He emphasized that the gas would be transported to Türkiye via the existing Baku–Tbilisi–Erzurum pipeline and stated that through long-term contracts and a diversification strategy, Türkiye ensures its energy security while continuing to regulate fuel prices at a competitive level.
