Zelenskyy Recalls Ukraine’s Backing of Georgia During 2008 Russian Invasion
On May 26, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the President of Ukraine, published a congratulatory message in the Georgian language on social media to mark Georgia’s Independence Day, reaffirming solidarity between Ukraine and Georgia in their shared pursuit of freedom.
In his address, Zelenskyy congratulated the Georgian people and expressed sincere wishes for the country’s strength and prosperity. He emphasized that Ukrainians have always maintained "a warm emotional connection with Georgia" and recalled Ukraine’s support for Georgia’s sovereignty during the Russian invasion in 2008.
Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would continue to stand with "all the peoples of Europe" in their common aspiration for a dignified and free life, adding that such a future is "unthinkable without Ukraine and Georgia." He concluded his message by thanking everyone who supports the Ukrainian people and declaring, "Long live independent Georgia!"
