Azerbaijan and China begin expanding their cooperation

On 25 July the Azerbaijani Minister of Economy Shahin Mustafayev held discussions on the prospects of further cooperation with the Chinese delegation led by Wang Yuhang, Vice President of China CAMC Engineering, reported azernews.

Mustafayev stressed that as a result of the growing interest of Chinese companies in the Azerbaijani economy, China CAMC Engineering and the Azerbaijani companies operating in relevant fields signed documents on cooperation on the second One Belt One Road conference this year. Yuhang, in turn, talked about the company's projects to be implemented in Azerbaijan, noting that Chinese businessmen are interested in a favorable business and investment environment in the country.

The sides discussed the establishment of an Agrarian Industrial Park in Azerbaijan, as well as the organization of joint processing plants, the participation in industrial parks and quarters, the creation of agricultural and household appliances production areas. As part of the visit to Azerbaijan, the company’s representatives got acquainted with favorable conditions created for entrepreneurs in the Hajigabul and Sabirabad industrial quarters, and were informed about the projects implemented there.

China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd. (CAMCE) is an incorporated company affiliated to China National Machinery Industry Corporation (SINOMACH). With rich experience in the international project contracting area, CAMCE’s business mainly consists of engineering procurement construction (EPC) projects, domestic and overseas investment and trade. CAMCE has completed about a hundred large-scale turnkey projects and equipment export projects. CAMCE’s global presence is felt in Asia, Africa, America and Eastern Europe. Its business covers industrial projects, agricultural projects, water engineering projects, power projects, communications projects, petrochemical projects and mining projects.

In late 2018, the company concluded a deal worth $1.17 billion with the Baku Steel Company. The document envisages the construction of the Azerbaijan Integrated Steel Mill Complex in Ganja. The planned capacity of the plant is 1.25 million tons of metal and 700,000 tons of sheet metal annually.

Earlier, the company signed an agreement on cooperation with AS Group Investment (Azerbaijan) for the implementation of the project for the creation of Absheron Agro Park in Azerbaijan. According to the contract, China CAMCE Engineering will attract $140 million in the Absheron Agro Park project. The project envisages fruit and vegetable production, sorting, packaging, storage and logistics with the application of modern technologies. Products produced in the Agro Park are intended for both domestic consumers and export.

CAMCE’s delegation arrived just a few days after the delegation of the Communist Party of China which was led by the head of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Party, Song Tao. Also, on the same day discussions between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Elmar Mammadyarov and the newly appointed Chinese ambassador Guo Min were held, were Guo Min assured that she will make all efforts to further develop relations between the two countries. As a reminder, Azerbaijan signed new contracts with Chinese companies on the sidelines of the One Belt One Road forum worth $821 million.
