Aliyev and Pashinyan Discuss Regional Issues with US Diplomats

Ilham Aliyev received US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State

On April 19, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Erika Olson, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani President reported.

The parties exchanged views on normalizing relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and negotiations on a peace treaty.

The head of state noted that signing a peace treaty with Armenia following the 44-day Patriotic War was Azerbaijan's initiative. In this regard, Baku proposed five principles that would form the basis of the peace treaty.

Erika Olson emphasized that the US supports the regional peace agenda and the immediate signing of the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In this regard, the role of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken was particularly mentioned.

During the conversation, the sides discussed regional issues and bilateral political relations between Azerbaijan and the United States, including cooperation in energy, renewables, and other areas. 

Nikol Pashinyan receives the US Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Louis Bono

On April 20, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received Louis Bono, the US Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations and Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, the Press Office of the Armenian Prime Minister reported.

The Prime Minister emphasized the efforts of the US administration to ensure stability and security in the region and presented the approaches of the Armenian side to the settlement of the existing key issues. Nikol Pashinyan considered the aggressive policy and bellicose rhetoric towards the people of Nagorno Karabakh and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia unacceptable.

"The interlocutors discussed issues related to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the formation of an international dialogue mechanism between Stepanakert [Khankendi in Azerbaijani] and Baku, the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulted from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin Corridor, normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and unblocking of regional transport infrastructures," the report added.
