Aliyev and Shoigu Discuss Implementation of North-South Corridor, Azerbaijan-Armenia Relations and Energy Cooperation
On August 6, Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received Sergei Shoigu, the Secretary of the Russian Federation Security Council.
The Azerbaijani President praised the successful development of bilateral relations, highlighting high-level contacts and the implementation of agreements and roadmaps signed between the two countries. He noted cooperation in security, transportation, energy, military-technical, and humanitarian areas. Aliyev mentioned that discussions on these issues frequently take place with President Vladimir Putin. He also lauded the active work of the intergovernmental commission, announcing its next meeting will soon be held in Baku, and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing active contacts between various authorities of the two countries.
President Aliyev expressed satisfaction with the successful implementation of decisions made between the two countries' political leadership, particularly the Declaration's provisions on "Allied Interaction between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation." He described Azerbaijan-Russia relations as exemplary for some neighboring states, highlighting their importance as a key security factor in the South Caucasus and beyond.
Sergei Shoigu expressed gratitude for the warm reception given to the delegation, attributing it to the strong personal relationship between the heads of state of the two countries. He commended the successful development of relations between the two countries in regional security, military-technical, transportation, and economic areas. Shoigu highlighted the implementation of the North-South corridor as a prime example, noting significant progress made on a trilateral basis regarding this project. He also expressed Russia's support for normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The meeting discussed the prospects for cooperation in the "3+3" format.
