Armenia and Azerbaijan Removed from Magnitsky Act Extension List
Armenia and Azerbaijan have been removed from the list of countries supporting the extension of the "Magnitsky list" of the European Union until December 8, 2026 - for another three years.
Recently, the EU foreign policy service published a statement by Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on the accession of several countries to the European Magnitsky Act. Armenia and Azerbaijan were among the countries that joined. However, the text was later edited, and the two republics were excluded from the list.
Commenting on the statement from Brussels on December 19, Ani Badalyan, the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia, said that Armenia did not join the so-called European Magnitsky Act.
"Proceeding from its foreign policy priorities and partnership with the EU, Armenia considers and often joins the statements of the European Union, showing its support for the issues raised there. Specifically, Armenia did not join the EU Council Decision (2023/2721) on restrictive mechanisms of December 4," the foreign ministry informed.
