Armenia Doubles Foreign Trade Turnover in January 2023

The foreign trade turnover of Armenia in January 2023 compared to the same month in 2022 increased by 93.8% and amounted to almost $1.3 billion.

Foreign trade turnover with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries for the first month of this year amounted to $578 million 651 thousand, an increase of 2.3 times compared to the same period last year. The largest trading partners of Armenia in the post-Soviet space are Russia (the volume of trade in January was $543 million 270 thousand, an increase compared to the first month of 2022 - 2.4 times), Belarus ($18 million 875 thousand, an increase of 2. 2 times) and Ukraine ($8 million 598 thousand, a decline of 13.4%). The volume of Armenia's foreign trade turnover with the EU countries for the reporting period amounted to $195 million 623 thousand, with an increase of 50%. The top five largest trading partners of the republic among European countries include Germany ($51.7 million, an increase of 2.1 times), the Netherlands ($35.2 million, an increase of 39.3%), and Italy ($25.8 million). , an increase of 69.5%), France ($13.6 million, an increase of 5.2 times), and Poland ($10.6 million, an increase of 2.6 times).

Among other countries in terms of trade with Armenia in January 2023, China stands out ($141 million 926 thousand, an increase of 44.8%), the United States ($49 million 481 thousand, an increase of 3.4 times), the United Arab Emirates ($49 million 218 thousand, an increase of 10.8 times), Iran ($47 million 68.2 thousand, an increase of 12.5%), Japan ($31.2 million, an increase of 5.6 times), Iraq ($19 million 564 thousand, an increase of 25.2%), Georgia ($13.5 million, a decrease of 0.4%) and Switzerland ($13 million 482 thousand, a decrease of 43.9%). According to statistical data, in January 2023, exports from Armenia increased by 2.3 times compared to January 2022, amounting to $572 million 778 thousand. The volume of exports from Armenia to the CIS countries for the reporting period of 2023 exceeded $373 million 172 thousand (an increase of 5 times). The top three in terms of Armenian exports are Russia ($354 million 925 thousand, an increase of 5.2 times), Belarus ($13.1 million, an increase of 6.1 times), and Kazakhstan ($2 million 458 thousand, a growth of 5 times). The volume of exports to the EU countries in January of this year decreased by 4.3% compared to January 2022, amounting to $54 million 81 thousand. The Netherlands is among the top three countries in terms of exports in the European direction ($30 million 175 thousand, an increase of 29.5%), Germany ($7 million 943 thousand, an increase of 43.6%) and Belgium ($4 million 822 thousand, an increase of 34.8%).

Armenia's volume of import operations in January amounted to $727 million 100 thousand, recording an increase of 72.5% compared to the first month of 2022. The volume of imports from the CIS countries amounted to $204 million 312 thousand, an increase of 6.3% compared to the same period last year. The top three in terms of imports from the republics of the former USSR are Russia ($187 million 162 thousand, an increase of 8.1%), Ukraine ($8 million 260 thousand, a decrease of 13.6%) and Belarus ($5 million 372 thousand, a decline of 20%).
