Armenia Warns of Possibility of Aggression from Azerbaijan in Karabakh

On June 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia warned of the danger of a new aggression from Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Foreign Ministry noted that the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan has been spreading false reports almost daily about the violation of the truce in the zone of responsibility of Russian peacekeepers in the Nagorno-Karabakh by the Defense Army of the unrecognized republic for a long time. "At the same time, in the information bulletins of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh, violations are recorded only from the Azerbaijani side," the report added.

"Given the Azerbaijani experience that has already become traditional - to ensure "information preparation" before the next use of force and initially attribute future actions to the other side, there are serious fears that the military-political leadership of Azerbaijan, despite all the commitments taken, is preparing the ground for new aggressive actions and ethnic purges in Nagorno-Karabakh," the statement said.

In this regard, official Yerevan called on Russian peacekeepers to closely monitor the observance of the ceasefire and investigate all cases declared by Azerbaijan as violations of the ceasefire by the Karabakh side, publicly presenting the real state of affairs.

At the same time, it is noted that Armenia confirms its position on the need to send an international fact-finding mission to Nagorno-Karabakh. Such a mission, according to the Armenian side, can provide reliable and impartial information about the situation on the line of contact and the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, which arose after Azerbaijan installed its checkpoint in the Lachin corridor, blocked gas and electricity supplies, shelled farmers and agricultural equipment in the region.

Yerevan is confident that the issue of ensuring the rights and security of the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh is paramount, calling on the international community to support the establishment of a dialogue between Stepanakert [Khankendi in Azerbaijani] and Baku.
