Armenian Deputy FM: New Unblocking Proposals Sent to Azerbaijan

On November 5, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Paruyr Hovhannisyan addressed various diplomatic issues in a conversation with journalists at Armenia's National Assembly.
Commenting on the “Crossroads of Peace” project, Hovhannisyan remarked that the ongoing negotiations aim to open roads and improve connectivity while ensuring Armenia’s sovereignty and exclusive control over these routes. He emphasized that the project excludes any third-party control in terms of security or administration, thus maintaining Armenia’s full authority over these communication pathways.
Responding to questions about recent unblocking proposals made to Azerbaijan, which Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan had referenced, Hovhannisyan clarified that these include simplified procedures for transit and do not involve transferring control to external security companies. He also noted that while a recent proposal package has been sent to Azerbaijan, Armenia is awaiting a formal response. “There have been a lot of intensive meetings recently, but I can't speak about the results yet,” Hovhannisyan said, pointing out that the current period has been highly active with bilateral contacts and meetings.
Additionally, Hovhannisyan addressed Armenia's priorities concerning genocide prevention. Referring to Mirzoyan’s recent statement that international recognition of the Armenian Genocide is not a primary foreign policy focus, Hovhannisyan remarked that prevention remains an important issue for Armenia, especially in light of the upcoming global forum on genocide prevention to be hosted in December. He noted, “For us, the problem of genocide prevention remains one of the important issues,” underscoring its importance to Armenian policy.
