Armenian Economy Minister Assures Domestic Economy Remains Stable Amid Regional Uncertainties
On March 5, Gevorg Papoyan, the Armenian Economy Minister, stated that while there are macro-level issues outside Armenia, within the country all challenges remain a focus of the authorities, and no issue goes unaddressed. Speaking to journalists, he emphasized that experience shows Armenia can resolve problems effectively and assured, "We will solve this issue; there are no critical problems at the moment." The minister made these remarks in response to questions about potential difficulties in the exchange of goods with Iran and whether certain imports might be unavailable.
During the conversation, Papoyan was asked about alternative options. He responded, "Of course there are. But when we say, 'Let's open the border with Turkey, let's open the border with Azerbaijan,' what are we talking about? Why are we saying this?" When pressed on whether the same goods would be imported from Azerbaijan and Turkey, he clarified, "No, we say we must always look for alternatives. Everyone said, 'No, that's fine.' And we respond: no, the world is changing, anything is possible, we need to be prepared for anything."
Papoyan also noted that there are no obstacles on the Armenian side, but there are understandable concerns on the Iranian side, given the ongoing conflict in that country.
