Armenian FM and US Adviser Discuss Key South Caucasus Security Issues
On May 23, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, received Louis Bono, the US Senior Adviser on Caucasus Negotiations and the US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, as reported by the MFA.
The interlocutors discussed issues related to the security situation in the South Caucasus. They touched upon the normalization process of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including discussions on the peace treaty. Minister Mirzoyan briefed Bono on the latest developments, emphasizing Armenia’s positions on key issues. He particularly stressed the importance of mutual recognition of territorial integrity and the delimitation process based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and maps, which have strong legal foundations.
In the context of unblocking regional communications, Mirzoyan reaffirmed Armenia’s consistent approach to the process based on principles of sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity, and equality.
Ararat Mirzoyan and Louis Bono also exchanged views on topics on the agenda of the Armenia-USA political dialogue, upcoming events, and the further development of the bilateral partnership.
The press office announced that Armen Grigoryan, Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, also met on May 23 with Louis Bono. The interlocutors discussed the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, referred to the latest developments in the negotiation process, and explored the prospects of establishing long-term peace.
