Speaking to journalists on 27 March, Alen Simonyan, President of the National Assembly of Armenia, announced that the issue of the withdrawal of Russian border guards from Yerevan's Zvartnots International Airport was over.

Simonyan declared that the issue had been settled for Armenia and stressed that there was no need for further discussion on the issue. He clarified that while some might try to portray the process as a violation of an "interstate agreement", it was actually part of an interagency agreement aimed at assisting Armenian border guards in this specific area of border protection. In the current situation, however, such assistance is deemed unnecessary, leading to the decision for the Russian border guards to leave Zvartnots International Airport on 1 August.

Simonyan denied rumours of talks on the withdrawal of Russian border guards from the Armenian-Turkish border, asserting that no such discussions were taking place.

The Armenian official was responding to questions about the agenda of the upcoming trilateral meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. Specifically, he was asked whether Armenia's potential membership of the European Union would be a topic of discussion.
Simonyan clarified that he was not privy to the agenda of the meeting and stated that Armenia is not currently involved in discussions on joining the European Union. He expressed scepticism about the possibility of such discussions taking place in the near future, stressing that it was not an issue under consideration at this stage.
