Armenia's MP Khachatryan: No Peace with Azerbaijan Until Troop Withdrawal, Urges Russian Support
On December 20, Civil Contract Party MP Armen Khachatryan noted that Yerevan will raise the level of Armenian-Russian relations in all spheres. "Armenia and Russia are linked by blood vessels, economic and other ties," he added.
"But Armenia should have certain political tools to ensure that the treaty obligations assumed by other states towards the Republic of Armenia are fulfilled," Khachatryan emphasized.
At the same time, Khachatryan avoided directly answering the journalists' question of whether he supports Pashinyan's statements, which criticized Russia for not fulfilling its obligations to ensure Armenia's security. "There have always been strange actions on the Russian side before Azerbaijan's hostilities. This is obvious. Russia, having several security commitments to Armenia, was unable to fulfill its obligations. Simply unable," Civil Contract Party MP noted.
Moreover, Khachatryan said that there can be no peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan as long as Azerbaijani troops are on Armenia's sovereign territory.
"All problems can be solved on condition that Azerbaijani troops pull out from the occupied territories. The purpose of the mirror withdrawal from the border areas proposed by Armenia is for the armed forces of both countries to come into contact with each other as little as possible. Border guards should be on this territory," Khachatryan added.
"Work is now underway to analyze technical issues, maps, and topographic data. However, the work will be effective only if Azerbaijan accepts the fundamental provisions of the peace treaty," the MP noted.
