
Azerbaijan and Georgia Discuss Regional Security and Strategic Partnership in Baku

On May 20, the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia held the next round of political consultations in Baku, demonstrating their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations. Led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Samir Sharifov from Azerbaijan and First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Lasha Darsalia from Georgia, the delegations engaged in discussions encompassing political, economic, trade, energy, transportation, and cultural-humanitarian fields.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of relations, underscoring the importance of their mutually beneficial strategic partnership. They emphasized that the friendly neighborhood conditions between the two neighboring countries are crucial for the progress of the South Caucasus region and contribute to stability and security.
The significance of high-level mutual visits and the activity of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on economic issues were highlighted during the meeting. Additionally, the importance of continued coordination and mutual support on matters of shared importance within international and regional organizations, including the Azerbaijan-Turkey-Georgia tripartite cooperation framework and other multilateral platforms, was emphasized.
Discussions also revolved around regional security issues, ongoing agreements, and draft documents under consideration.
Furthermore, Azerbaijan informed the Georgian side about its organization of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled to be hosted in November of the same year.
During the meeting, the Georgian delegation was briefed on the normalization of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations and Azerbaijan's efforts towards establishing sustainable peace in the region.
