Azerbaijan Eyes Expanded Cooperation with China in Trade and Energy

In an interview with the Chinese publication Global Times on March 25, Hikmet Hajiyev, the Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, emphasized the excellent political ties between Azerbaijan and China and highlighted the significant potential for further cooperation, particularly in the trade, transport, and energy sectors.

Expressing Azerbaijan's appreciation for China's longstanding support and friendship, Hajiyev emphasized the importance of enhancing business partnerships between the two countries. He underscored Azerbaijan's transition toward green growth and its desire to see more Chinese companies investing in the country's economy, particularly in renewable energy production.

Regarding digital transformation, Hajiyev outlined it as a top priority for Azerbaijan's sustainable development goals. He expressed the country's interest in partnering with Chinese companies to establish production lines for renewable energies within the country. He noted China's leading position in the electric automobile industry and the country's interest in establishing a manufacturing base through collaboration with Chinese firms.

Highlighting the significance of Chinese-Azerbaijani cooperation within the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), particularly in the context of the Middle Corridor, Hajiyev emphasized Azerbaijan's strategic location as a key link between China and the European Union. He emphasized the potential for strong connectivity linkages between Azerbaijan and Central Asian countries, aligning well with the goals of the BRI and further enhancing the strategic partnership between China and Azerbaijan.

Moreover, Hajiyev reiterated Azerbaijan's support for the one-China policy and condemned the recent illegal election in the 'Taiwan region of China.' He emphasized Azerbaijan's commitment to maintaining a strong political relationship with China and expressed optimism about the growing trade relationship between the two countries.
