Azerbaijan Offers Armenian Representatives from Karabakh to Meet in Baku
On March 13, the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration stated that Azerbaijan offered Karabakh Armenians a meeting in Baku.
"The Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan invites the representatives of the Armenian community of Karabakh to a second meeting to discuss the issues of continuing contacts related to reintegration, as well as the implementation of infrastructure projects in Karabakh," the information said.
In an interview published on March 12, Hikmat Hajiyev, the Assistant to the Azerbaijani President on Foreign Policy Issues, said that Baku is committed to contact with the Armenian residents of Karabakh. Hajiyev noted that the Karabakh territory is an integral part of Azerbaijan, and the reintegration of Armenian residents into Azerbaijan is the only way out. The presidential assistant drew attention to the undesirable statements of the representatives of the other side after the initial contact with the Armenian residents of Khojaly on March 1. "However, we are determined to continue these contacts," Hajiyev said.
According to him, although Armenia tried from the very beginning to include the Karabakh issue in the peace agreement, this approach is unacceptable for Azerbaijan. According to Hajiyev, the issue of individual rights and security for Armenian residents living in Karabakh is purely an internal matter of Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan will not discuss issues related to its sovereignty with other third parties, including Armenia.
