Azerbaijan Responds to Pashinyan's Comments About Recent Clashes Along Border

| News, Politics, Armenia, Azerbaijan

On June 16, during the speech of the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan at the government meeting, he said that the establishment of the exit point from the state border of Lachin created a "tense humanitarian situation," Azerbaijan "prevents the provision of daily necessities and medical products to Armenian residents," "implements a policy of ethnic cleansing." Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry rejected these claims.

"We would like to remind you once again that any intervention by Armenia on the issue of establishing a border checkpoint in Azerbaijan's sovereign territory is a claim against Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and such actions are against all norms and principles of international law," the report added.

"There are appropriate conditions for the transparent, safe, and orderly passage of local Armenian residents of the Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan from the precinct, and it is known that hundreds of residents freely use this road since the establishment of the precinct," it claimed. "The purpose of the provocation committed by Armenia against this point and our border guards on June 15 is to overshadow the successful operation of the border crossing point from the Azerbaijani side and to prevent the safe and free use of the point," the report said.

"Instead of making groundless statements, Armenia should refrain from provocations, take a responsible and constructive approach to the negotiations on the peace agreement and the opening of communications in the region, comply with the obligations arising from the Tripartite Declaration, including the complete withdrawal of its forces from the territories of Azerbaijan, and refrain from taking steps against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan," the information concluded.
