Azerbaijan to Exceed 12 Billion Cubic Meters Gas Export to Europe in 2023
At the 6th Romanian International Gas Conference held in Bucharest on November 10, Azerbaijan's Deputy Energy Minister Samir Valiyev said that if Azerbaijan exported 11.4 billion cubic meters of gas to Europe in 2022, this volume is expected to exceed 12 billion cubic meters in 2023. "It is planned to increase the supply from the 'Shah Deniz' field by 1 billion cubic meters annually through the Southern Gas Corridor," he added.
The deputy minister said that by 2028, a large amount of natural gas will be released to the market from the selected fields that are being developed in the part of the Caspian Sea owned by Azerbaijan, including the Umid, Azeri-Chirag Solar Deep Gas projects, as well as from the exploited Absheron field. is expected. "At the same time, the gas that will be saved due to Azerbaijan's green energy agenda and energy efficiency measures will be an important source of additional supply. By the end of 2027, wind, and solar power plants with a capacity of 1,862 MW are planned to be commissioned, which means the release of more than 1 billion cubic meters of gas," Valiyev noted.
The deputy minister also said that Azerbaijan is determined to realize all its strategic goals related to its development as a green energy country, to contribute to Europe's energy security and green transition. "At the same time, an international cooperation platform covering four countries has been created in the field of green energy at the initial stage. Work is underway on the project to create a green energy corridor connecting the Caspian Sea with Europe through transmission lines from wind power plants to be implemented, as well as the Black Sea submarine cable. At the initial stage, it is planned to export 4 GW of power to Europe through the Black Sea, and 1 GW of power to Turkey and Europe through Nakhchivan," the official noted.
