Baku discusses economic cooperation and regional security with Tallin and Riga
Meeting with Estonian Foreign Minister
According to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and his Estonian counterpart Eva-Maria Liimets addressed economic cooperation and regional security.
The ministers lauded the relation dynamics over the years in a letter sent on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Bayramov stated in his letter that Azerbaijan-Estonia relations have progressively grown over the last 30 years, noting that reciprocal high-level visits, as well as the existence of a comprehensive legal framework between the two countries, have played a key role in strengthening complex mutual connections.
The minister stressed the importance of the Azerbaijani-Estonian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation as a venue for bilateral economic discussions. The letter expressed hope that bilateral connections would continue to flourish in the future, based on a solid foundation of long-standing friendship and mutual understanding based on international law principles.
For her part, Liimets underscored the progress of bilateral cooperation over the last 30 years, noting achievements in higher education and information technology. Estonia has always backed Azerbaijan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its efforts to promote regional security and cooperation in the South Caucasus, she said. Liimets expressed hope about the comprehensive cooperation between the two countries' future development.
The two government officials extended their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes for the peace, quiet, and development of the two friendly nations.
Azerbaijan and Estonia work together in a variety of fields and the trade turnover was $6.1 million in 2021.
First meeting of the strategic dialogue in Latvia
The first meeting of the strategic dialogue between Azerbaijan and Latvia was held in Riga. The statement came from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov and the Latvian delegation was led by Deputy Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Andzejs Vilumsons.
"Khalafov and Vilumsons noted that there are new opportunities for further development of Azerbaijan's relations with the European Union, emphasising that the comprehensive partnership agreement to be signed between Baku and Brussels will bring relations to a new level," the statement said.
The sides also discussed topical issues on the agenda of the bilateral strategic partnership, including cooperation in the political, economic, trade, transport, and humanitarian spheres, as well as cooperation in multilateral formats within international organisations, as well as the situation in Ukraine.
"In addition, the delegation led by Khalafov met with members of the Latvian Seimas' Group for Promotion of Cooperation with the Azerbaijani Parliament, and the parties noted the importance of inter-parliamentary dialogue in the implementation of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Latvia," the statement said.
