Caucasus Diplomacy: US Senior Adviser Meets with Armenian, Azerbaijani, Georgian Officials

On March 13, Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, met with Louis Bono, the US Senior Adviser on Caucasus Negotiations, to discuss the security situation in the South Caucasus. They also delved into the normalization process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, including discussions on a peace treaty. Minister Mirzoyan outlined Armenia's positions on key issues, emphasizing the importance of mutual recognition of territorial integrity and further delimitation based on the 1991 Alma-Ata Declaration and legally grounded maps. They also discussed Armenia's approach to unblocking regional communications, emphasizing sovereignty, jurisdiction, reciprocity, and equality principles. Additionally, they exchanged views on topics on the agenda of the Armenia-USA political dialogue, upcoming events, and further development of the bilateral partnership.

On March 14, Ilia Darchiashvili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, met with Louis Bono to discuss the agenda of the U.S.-Georgia strategic partnership and prospects for cooperation. They highlighted the US's strong support for Georgia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and European and Euro-Atlantic integration, welcoming Georgia's designation as an EU candidate country. They also addressed security challenges in the region and globally, focusing on the difficult security and humanitarian situation in Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions. The US affirmed its support for Georgia's peaceful conflict resolution policy, and they discussed dynamics in the Geneva International Discussions. Ilia Darchiashvili expressed gratitude for the crucial support provided by the US to Georgia as a strategic partner.

On March 18, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Louis Bono. They discussed the agenda and perspectives of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States, the current regional situation, and aspects of the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Minister Bayramov highlighted Azerbaijan's commitment to the peace process and shared Azerbaijan's expectations and positions on unresolved issues within the process. They also exchanged views on other matters of mutual interest.
