De-Facto Ministry of Defense of Separatist South Ossetia Denies Mobilization in Tskhinvali

| News, Georgia, Tskhinvali

The de-facto South Ossetian Defense Ministry said that the information from one of the telegram channels that allegedly representatives of the Russian 4th military base are making door-to-door visits and handing subpoenas to the residents of Tskhinvali to send them to Ukraine is not true.

"The 4th military base is located in [separatist] South Ossetia based on an agreement between the Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia on a joint military base on the territory of the Republic of South Ossetia dated April 7, 2010 (an agreement in the public domain) and its powers do not include making door-to-door rounds and serving summonses to citizens of another state. Within the current regulatory legal framework between the defense departments, the issue of subpoenas, conscripting citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia to serve in the Russian army, etc., has not been fixed by the forces of the Russian military base," the Ministry stated.

The de-facto Ministry of Defense noted that this provocative information stuffing is aimed at artificially whipping up tension in the republic and undermining confidence in Russian-Ossetian relations, including in the security field.

Earlier, Caucasus Watch reported that commenting on the statements of the military commissar, the Press Office of the de-facto Defense Ministry of Abkhazia said that the point of view of Beslan Tarba, the military commissar of Abkhazia, regarding partial mobilization in the republic does not coincide with the position of the Ministry of Defense. "The Military Commissar of the Republic of Abkhazia, in an interview with the Sputnik news agency, commented on the partial mobilization in the Russian Federation. This point of view does not reflect the position of the Ministry of Defense but is a personal point of view of Beslan Tarba," the Ministry of Defense of Abkhazia emphasized. Tarba considered that the mobilization announced in Russia on September 21 partially concerns the inhabitants of Abkhazia. "If it is necessary to carry out partial mobilization, we will naturally do this when we receive separate official instruction. It will not rust behind us. There are no debts to anyone, but we are always there," said Tarba. The military commissar also said that he heard the call of Nikolay Pankov, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Russia, who allegedly stated that it was time to pay Abkhazia's debts.
