Economic Activity in Armenia Increased
According to Armenia’s National Statistical Committee’s main macroeconomic indicators characterizing the country’s socio-economic situation, Armenia's economic activity in 2022 increased by 14.2% compared to the previous year.
Economic activity surged by 21.5% in December 2022 compared to November and by 12.8% compared to December 2021.
According to the data, all sectors of the economy saw growth in 2022. The industrial output amounted to about 2.76 trillion drams, making an increase of 7.8% from 2021.
In his remarks at the Digital Almaty Awards forum in Kazakhstan on February 3, Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan said that in 2022 the turnover in the IT sector increased by more than 50% while the share of the information technologies and communications sector in Armenia's GDP is consistently growing. In the meantime, he mentioned that forming a single digital space on the territory of the Eurasian Economic Union is important for Yerevan.
In the extended-format session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty on February 3, Pashinyan stressed: “Despite the geopolitical tension, mutual trade in the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) continues to demonstrate positive dynamics. Trade turnover between Armenia and EEU countries in January-November of 2022 grew more than 90% compared to the same period in 2021, totaling 4,6 billion dollars. Moreover, imports by the origin of country of goods grew over 50.”
He also highlighted the need to create favorable conditions for businesses, eliminate obstacles, and increase cooperation in entrepreneurship.
