European Union Monitoring Mission in Armenia to Open New Operational Centers

| News, Politics, Armenia

On June 7, Markus Ritter, the head of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMA), announced that EUMA would open new operational centers in Armenia in Jermuk (Vayots Dzor region) and Ijevan (Tavush region).

"The Mission plans to open three additional operations centers in Jermuk, Ijevan, and Yeghegnadzor in the coming months, gradually reaching full readiness shortly," Ritter said. According to him, in the first three months since the start of work, European observers conducted more than 300 patrols from their centers in Goris, Jermuk, and Martuni, adjacent to the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. Patrols cover more than 3800 km every week.

"Our goal, among other things, is to contribute to the stabilization of security in the border areas. According to many Armenian officials, EUMA contributed to a certain stabilization of the situation. However, the situation is still unstable," Ritter added.

Notably, the mission headquarters is located in Yeghegnadzor (the administrative center of the Vayots Dzor region) and has six operational bases and a liaison office in Yerevan.
