EU's Chief Spokesman Stano Highlights Active Engagement in Azerbaijan-Armenia Peace Efforts
In an interview with Armenpress news agency on January 16, Peter Stano, the chief Spokesman for Foreign Affairs of the Union, stated that the European Union (EU) continues its active engagement in seeking sustainable peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Stano highlighted the ongoing efforts involving EU Council President Charles Michel, High Representative for Foreign Affairs Joseph Borrel, and EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Tovio Klaar, who collectively work to achieve lasting peace in the region.
Stano emphasized the EU's persistent diplomatic efforts over the past few years to reach a mutually acceptable solution to the conflict. He noted that the EU has maintained close communication with the leadership of both Armenia and Azerbaijan, consistently affirming its support for resolving issues related to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and other matters through peaceful means. Stano reiterated the EU's commitment to keeping communication channels open.
Regarding the territorial integrity of Armenia, Stano conveyed that the EU has conveyed clear messages to Azerbaijan, indicating that any violation of Armenia's territorial integrity would be deemed unacceptable and result in serious consequences for their bilateral relations. He underlined the EU's unwavering stance, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
