Foreign Trade of Separatist Abkhazia Grows by 19%

On July 7, Abkhazia's foreign trade volume grew by 19% and amounted to EUR 210 million in the first half of 2023 compared to the same period last year, the de-facto State Customs Committee reported.

The volume of import operations amounted to EUR 176 million; compared with the previous year, the imports of the de-facto republic in the first half of the year increased by 19.6%. The import increase occurred in several industries: machinery and equipment, base metals and products, and food products. The growth of imports is observed for such goods as meat and dairy products - an increase of EUR 1.7 million, means of land transport - an increase of EUR 5.6 million, electrical equipment - an increase of EUR 10 million, furniture - an increase of EUR 1.5 million.

In the first half of this year, imports of oil products, medicines, tobacco products, fruits, vegetables, and jewelry fell. Exports amounted to EUR 34 million, which increased by EUR 3.5 million or 11.7% compared to the previous year. In the commodity structure of exports, an important place is still occupied by alcoholic beverages and agricultural products. The volume of export of agricultural goods in the first half of the year amounted to EUR 7.5 million, which increased by EUR 2.8 million compared to last year. Alcoholic products, mainly wine and vodka products, were exported in the amount of EUR 19.4 million; compared to the previous year, this figure increased by EUR 13 million. Fish products also occupy an important place in the structure of exports. Volumes in the first half of 2023 fell compared to last year. 472 tons of fish oil were exported, 4,948 tons less than last year. For fishmeal, the situation is similar; the export volume amounted to 1,252 tons, while over the same period the previous year, 9,500 tons more were exported from the republic.
