France Concerned Over Border Shooting Incident between Azerbaijan and Armenia
France announced its decision to provide extra 3 million euros to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to support their humanitarian efforts in Nagorno-Karabakh. The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs shared this information in an official statement, revealing that the decision was discussed during a telephone conversation between the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, and France, Catherine Colonna.
The French Foreign Minister expressed deep concern over the prolonged suffering of the Nagorno-Karabakh population due to Azerbaijan's blockage of the Lachin corridor for over eight months.
She stressed that the unresolved issues can only find resolution through diplomatic negotiations, offering the prospect of achieving an equitable and sustainable peace. This sentiment had been reiterated during her official visits to Azerbaijan and Armenia on April 27 and 28, respectively.
Colonna reiterated her appeal to reinstate unhindered movement of people and commodities in both directions through the Lachin corridor, as well as to ensure a continuous supply of natural gas and electricity to the Nagorno-Karabakh population.
Furthermore, the two Foreign Ministers discussed the recent incidents involving gunfire during the patrol conducted by the EU monitoring mission along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border on Tuesday. Catherine Colonna expressed unease regarding these events and full support for the European mission’s efforts.
