Garibashvili and Macron discuss Georgia's EU Candidate Status in Paris
On November 9, the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili met with the President of the Republic of France Emmanuel Macron, the press office of the Georgian government reported.
The Prime Minister of Georgia noted that it is a historic decision and Georgia expects that the European Council in December 2023 will grant a status that will define the European future of our country. Irakli Garibashvili expressed his gratitude to Emmanuel Macron for the support shown on this way, underlining the great importance of the political and practical support of France as a leading country of the EU. The head of the Georgian government expressed his hope that this will further consolidate and help Georgia to successfully move forward to the next stages of accession.
The meeting focused on the European Commission's decision to recommend the European Council to grant Georgia the status of an EU candidate country. Irakli Garibashvili and Emmanuel Macron reviewed the cooperation between the two countries and discussed the prospects of its deepening in various fields. The meeting also touched upon the security environment in the region and the world. The leaders discussed the solution of existing challenges and the positive role that Georgia can play in achieving security and stability in the South Caucasus.
