On November 20, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Deputy Minister Alexander Khvtisiashvili led a delegation to Hong Kong for a working visit.
The delegation included Giorgi Pertaia, President of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce, and Paata Kalandadze, Georgia's Ambassador to the People's Republic of China. Khvtisiashvili held high-level discussions with prominent Hong Kong officials, including Eric Chan Kwok, Chief Secretary for Administration, Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Algernon Yau, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Kevin Yeung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, and Patrick Lau, Deputy Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.
During the meetings, the Georgian delegation showcased the country’s investment and business potential, emphasizing opportunities in key sectors such as transport, logistics, innovation, tourism, and trade. They highlighted the benefits of the free trade agreement between Georgia and Hong Kong, in effect since February 2019, and underscored the significance of the recently introduced visa-free regime for Georgian citizens traveling to Hong Kong, effective from September 30, 2024.
Both sides expressed a shared commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through sustained joint efforts, reciprocal visits, and enhanced communication channels.
The delegation also took part in the Asian Logistics, Maritime, and Aviation Conference, contributing to a session titled “Current and Future Alternative Routes of Supply: Resilience and Sustainability.” The conference provided an opportunity to explore innovative solutions and strategies for bolstering supply chain resilience.
In addition, the Georgian representatives engaged with senior leaders from approximately ten major local and international transport, logistics, and trading companies based in Hong Kong, further deepening business ties and fostering collaboration.
