Georgian Dream Ramps Up Pro-Trump Rhetoric

Mamuka Mdinaradze, the leader of the Georgian Dream parliamentary majority, has accused global powers and the so-called “Deep State” of orchestrating a proxy war against Russia through Ukraine. His remarks closely align with Kremlin propaganda, which seeks to shift blame for Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine onto the West.
Speaking in the Georgian Dream-controlled parliament, Mdinaradze claimed that Georgia was being punished for refusing to participate in a “pre-written scenario.” He further alleged that EU member states had become “puppet governments” working to overthrow Georgia’s leadership.
Mdinaradze asserted that the ongoing war in Ukraine had resulted in “a weakened Europe” and “a destroyed Ukraine.” He falsely claimed that U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had confirmed this as a “proxy war,” seemingly misattributing an interview by a U.S. official to the Secretary of State.
According to Mdinaradze, global powers have sought to weaken Russia, and since the Georgian government refused to follow their supposed agenda, they are now targeting Georgia. He alleged that the “Deep State” would use all available means to replace the current government with its own network of agents and, if necessary, devastate Georgia economically.
He further accused international organizations such as USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) of previously financing efforts to overthrow national governments outside of their influence. However, he now claims this role has shifted to EU member states like Sweden, Norway, and Estonia.
Mdinaradze took particular aim at the Baltic and Scandinavian states, accusing them of interfering in Georgia’s internal affairs. He claimed these countries were inciting radicalism, supporting “artificial protests,” and working to overthrow the Georgian government.
His rhetoric escalated further, as he declared that “there is no Lithuanian, Estonian, or Swedish government,” alleging that these countries’ officials act solely on behalf of the “Global War Party” and the “Deep State.”
This comes amid growing criticism from Baltic and Scandinavian nations over democratic backsliding, human rights violations, and the Georgian government’s increasing alignment with Russia. Last week, the Baltic states expanded sanctions on dozens of Georgian officials in response to crackdowns on opposition figures and judicial abuses.
Mdinaradze also suggested that the “Deep State” had undergone a “modernization and rebranding” to operate through covert methods. He warned that “attacks” on Georgia’s government would intensify as external forces allegedly work to replace it with “a network of agents.”
Expressing hope for Donald Trump’s success in fighting the Deep State, Mdinaradze speculated that it remained unclear whether Trump’s efforts were genuine or merely an attempt to “deceive the public” by modernizing the Deep State’s influence.
He concluded by stating that the ultimate test of whether the U.S. had successfully defeated the Deep State would be its future approach toward Georgia.
