Georgian FM Argentina Visit Highlights Economic and Diplomatic Opportunities"

During his official visit to the Republic of Argentina on March 28, Georgian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ilia Darchiashvili met with Diana Mondino, his Argentinian counterpart, emphasizing the enduring friendly and partnership relations between the two nations. 

Darchiashvili underscored the importance of strengthening ties with Argentina, recognizing its significant regional and global role. The ministers discussed the current European situation and its implications for the global agenda, particularly focusing on Georgia's heightened regional and international role following its EU candidate status. They explored the potential for enhancing trade and economic relations, highlighting Georgia's advantageous trade agreements and its growing importance in the Black Sea region's economic and security dynamics. Both sides expressed positive views on Georgia's active participation in cooperation initiatives with Latin American and Caribbean countries. Darchiashvili also thanked Argentina for its unwavering support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina hosted an exhibition featuring historical documents, including Argentina's recognition of Georgia's independence in 1919. Additionally, the two countries signed an agreement regarding employment opportunities for family members of diplomats serving abroad. In a separate event organized by the Foreign Ministry of Argentina, Darchiashvili was presented with historical documents highlighting Argentina's recognition of Georgia's independence and their shared values. Both sides reiterated the enduring friendship between Georgia and Argentina.

On the same day, Darchiashvili met with Victoria Villaruel, the Vice President of Argentina and President of the Senate, to discuss bilateral relations and parliamentary cooperation. They emphasized Georgia's regional significance and the need for stronger ties across various sectors.

The following day, Darchiashvili visited the legislative body in Buenos Aires, where the city's leadership honored him as a guest. The Tbilisi Municipality Council and the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires signed a memorandum of cooperation to deepen relations and cooperation on municipal development and self-governance.
