Georgian Parliament Delegate Criticizes PACE Resolution on Azerbaijani Delegation

On February 20, Givi Mikanadze, the Head of the Georgian Parliament's Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), addressed a letter to PACE President Theodoros Rousopoulos.
In the letter, Mikanadze expressed concern regarding the resolution on the non-ratification of the credentials of the delegation of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic to PACE. He highlighted the lack of substantial discussions and analysis preceding such harsh decisions, emphasizing potential adverse effects on future PACE-Azerbaijan and PACE-South Caucasus relations, as well as the overall future of PACE.
Mikanadze asserted that the resolution renders further cooperation and exchange with Azerbaijan within PACE unfeasible and will detrimentally impact PACE's engagement with the South Caucasus region.
Moreover, he criticized the resolution for undermining the mission and reputation of the Council of Europe as a vital platform for substantive dialogue and cooperation. He argued that the resolution contradicts the spirit of the values and commitments of the Council of Europe, potentially leading to increased polarization and damaging the trust-based cooperation among PACE member states.
Mikanadze concluded the letter by urging reconsideration of the resolution to mitigate its detrimental effects on PACE's relations with Azerbaijan and the overall interests of the Council of Europe. He emphasized that revoking the resolution would be in the best interests of the Council of Europe.
