During the visit to Brussels, the Georgian PM, Irakli Garibashvili, said he hoped the European Council would make “another historic decision” this year by granting the membership candidate status to the country.

Olivér Várhelyi, the European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, argued that Georgia's future was in the European Union and noted the country's "hard work" and fulfilled obligations would be evaluated "objectively."

Charles Michel commented that With the historic European perspective, Georgia now has the opportunity to chart a new trajectory for Georgia for generations. He also stressed that systemic reforms, inclusiveness, and transparency are needed.

After the meeting between Garibashvili and Michel, no joint press conference or briefing was held. According to the information of the Government of Georgia, the president of the European Council hosted the prime minister at a working dinner.

Nothing is said about the plans to continue the reforms in the statement issued by the Georgian government administration, according to which "the main topic of the meeting between Irakli Garibashvili and Charles Michel was the process of Georgia's accession to the European Union."

The official government statement says that "the parties discussed the progress made by Georgia in terms of fulfilling the 12 priorities of the European Commission" and that the leaders underlined the "critical importance" of granting candidate status to Georgia at the end of the year.

Georgia's PM also met with the President of the House of Representatives of Belgium, Eliane Tillier. The parties discussed cooperation issues between Georgia and Belgium in various fields. They focused on the possibilities of strengthening inter-parliamentary relations. At the meeting, a positive evaluation was given to the close partnership between the two countries in bilateral and multilateral formats. The prospects of deepening cooperation in trade and economy, investments, tourism, science, education, and culture were discussed.

During the meeting, the prime minister spoke in detail about the process of Georgia's accession to the European Union and the implementation of a large part of the 12 priorities of the European Commission. Garibashvili also drew attention to the historic decision to recognize Georgia's European perspective and emphasized the importance of granting the country candidate status at the end of the year.

The Georgian PM noted that this year Georgia is represented for the first time as a host country at an international cultural festival of such a high level as Europealia. According to Irakli Garibashvili, the festival is entirely dedicated to Georgia, which will help raise awareness about the country in Belgium as well as the whole of Europe and promote Georgia's European culture.

Moreover, the PM also delivered a speech at the reception dedicated to the International Culture Festival - "Europalia," and Georgia's Independence Day in Belgium. The head of the government paid attention to the Russia-Ukraine war and noted that Russia's invasion of Ukraine weakened modern values and the fundamental principles of the international order based on rules. According to him, Georgia firmly stands by the friendly country.

"Dear guests, I want to tell you that our meeting is taking place at a critical moment in the history of Europe. Russia's invasion of Ukraine undermines modern values and fundamental principles of the rules-based international order. Georgia firmly stands by our friendly country and the free world with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. The free world today faces serious global challenges. Russia's invasion of Ukraine was the beginning of a war that affects us all. During the last thirty years, Georgia very often experienced Russian aggression," stated Garibashvili.
