Ilham Aliyev Meets Major Industrial Chiefs in Davos
On January 17, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, arrived in Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum's annual meeting, the Press Office of the Azerbaijani president reported.
Meeting with the Chief Executive Officer and Shareholder of the Dutch "Damen Shipyards Group"
On the same day, Ilham Aliyev praised the "Damen Shipyards Group," which has recently begun project implementation in Azerbaijan.
Noting that Azerbaijan has become an important transit country, the president stated that the volume of cargo transiting through the country's borders has increased by 75%. Taking this into account, President Ilham Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan will now have to boost the number of modern tankers, dry cargo ships, and ferries. The president emphasized that there is also a considerable possibility for engagement with the "Damen Shipyards Group" in this field.
They also discussed the prospect of producing several ships for the Azerbaijan Naval Forces.
Meeting with Senior Vice President and Global Innovation Officer for CISCO
On January 17, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met with Guy Diedrich, the CISCO's Senior Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer.
During the meeting, the parties praised Azerbaijan and Cisco's excellent long-term partnership. During the conversation, it was stressed that hundreds of schools in Azerbaijan would be included in this program. During the conversation, the parties discussed the application of Cisco technologies in managing water resources in Azerbaijan and the potential for cooperation in education and cybersecurity.
Guy Dietrich stated that a digitalization project was implemented in one of the schools in Azerbaijan.
President Ilham Aliyev said that the "smart city" and "smart village" initiatives had been effectively implemented in the Zangilan region. He emphasized that these projects would also be implemented in other liberated territories. The head of state expressed appreciation for Cisco's "Report on the Smart City Structure of Azerbaijan."
Meeting with the Executive Chairman of "Fortescue Future Industries"
On the same day, Ilham Aliyev met with Andrew Forrest, the CEO of "Fortescue Future Industries," in Davos.
The parties highlighted that a project to produce 12,000 megawatts of wind and solar energy in Azerbaijan was to be implemented under the terms of a memorandum inked last month between the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy and "Fortescue Future Industries." The significance of the "Agreement on a Strategic Partnership in the Field of Green Energy Development and Transmission between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania and Hungary" being signed in Bucharest was also emphasized. The parties agreed that it was essential to supply future green energy produced in Azerbaijan to the European market through this project.
Meeting with the CEO of British Petroleum
On January 18, the President of Azerbaijan met with Bernard Looney, the CEO of BP.
During the meeting, the parties praised bp's sustained presence in Azerbaijan. They reviewed the transfer of Azerbaijan's energy projects to a new phase, the rise of gas volume, bp's active participation in renewable energy initiatives, and the extension of current projects.
Meeting with the Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group
On January 19, Ilham Aliyev met with Gautam Adani, Founder, and Chairman of the Adani Group, in Davos.
During the meeting, the sides emphasized that Azerbaijan is the initiator of the East-West and North-South transport corridors and one of the key transport logistics hubs and discussed prospects for cooperation.
The sides also noted the particular importance of the Middle Corridor passing through the territory of Azerbaijan within the context of the East-West transport corridor.
Gautam Adani said that the company has extensive experience in port management, transport, and transportation in India and different regions of the world and has made direct investments in these fields in several countries around the globe.
During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on Azerbaijan's attractiveness for foreign direct investments, the development of the country's economy, and the prospects for cooperation with the Adani Group in petrochemical, mining, metallurgical industry, and other areas of mutual interest.
