Iranian Prosecutor General Calls Azerbaijani Counterpart to Discuss Attack on Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran

On February 13, at the initiative of the Iranian side, a telephone conversation was held between Kamran Aliyev, the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan, and Mohammad Jafar Montazeri, the Prosecutor General of Iran, the Press Service of the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan reported.

General prosecutors discussed the investigation into the armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran on January 27. Prosecutor General Montazeri expressed regret for the crime committed in the building of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Tehran. "He expressed his condolences to the people of Azerbaijan and the family members of the victims. The Prosecutor General of Iran informed his Azerbaijani colleague in detail about the progress of the investigation of the criminal case", the information stated.

Kamran Aliyev condemned the terrorist act committed against the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Iran and brought to the attention of his colleague that the investigation of the criminal case is ongoing in the relevant investigative agency of Azerbaijan. Prosecutor General Aliyev stressed the necessity of a full and thorough investigation of the criminal case by Iran, identification and prosecution of all participants, and investigation of the cause and circumstances of this terrorist act.

Both sides have agreed to keep the criminal case under control and to cooperate within the framework of mutual legal assistance.

As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, on January 27, an armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran took place. Azerbaijani government-controlled media blamed Iran and accused the Iranian side of conducting a terrorist attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran.
