Jeyhun Bayramov Discusses Moscow's Statement on Lachin Corridor with Russia's New Ambassador

On July 17, Jeyhun Bayramov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, received Mikhail Evdokimov, the newly appointed ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

During the meeting, the importance of developing relations between Azerbaijan and Russia within the framework of bilateral and multilateral agreements, in the conditions of good neighborliness, friendship, and mutual understanding was emphasized.

In accordance with the Declaration on Mutual Cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation, it was brought to attention that the two countries built their relations based on loyalty to the principles of mutual respect for independence, state sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It was stated that determining the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan concerning the position of the Armenian side is not by the mentioned framework.

"It was emphasized that the allegations that a tense humanitarian situation has arisen in the region due to the activity of the Lachin border crossing point distort the reality. For a long time, contrary to the tripartite statement to which Russia is also a party, the facts of illegal activities carried out using the Lachin road, the transportation of military supplies and mines from Armenia to the territory of Azerbaijan, were mentioned. It was stated that the Azerbaijani side has a sovereign right to establish the border crossing point of Lachin, and it aims to prevent illegal activities, as well as to ensure transparency. Despite this, it was noted that the Armenian side did not stop provocations against the station on June 15 and at the beginning of July. The Azerbaijani side has again created conditions for Armenian residents to pass through this point. At the same time, it was pointed out that it is possible to use the Aghdam-Khankendi [Stepanakert in Armenian] road to meet the needs of the Armenian residents of Azerbaijan," the report added.

"Regarding the issue of rights and security of Armenian residents mentioned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, it was noted that this issue will be resolved within the framework of Azerbaijan's national legislation, and for this purpose, the existence of a dialogue initiative with Armenian residents was noted," the information added.
