Kadyrov’s reaction to Biden's words about the problems of the LGBT community in Chechnya
Ramzan Kadyrov invited US President Joe Biden, who called on September 22 to defend the rights of the LGBT community in Chechnya, to come to the federal republic to make sure that there are no sexual minorities and problems with them in Chechnya.
US President Joe Biden, speaking at the UN General Assembly, called for the protection of the rights of the LGBT community in Chechnya, Cameroon, and elsewhere in the world.
"We all need to stand up for the rights of LGBT people so that they can live without fear and in love in Chechnya, Cameroon or any other part of the world," he said. At the same time, the US President did not specify exactly what measures should be taken to implement this task.
“Biden, whose country is angry at all Muslim states, is ploughing the Arab world with air bombs and has returned troops from Afghanistan in shame, suddenly began to mention the Chechen (federal) republic for no reason at all,” Kadyrov said.
Earlier, the Chechen authorities, in response to the Novaya Gazeta's investigation of the persecution and murder of people of non-heterosexual people in the republic, indicated that if there were gay people in the region, their relatives would have dealt with them.
The press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov called Biden's statement incorrect. Cameroon is a separate state, and Chechnya is a region within Russia, they cannot be compared, he said. "From the point of view of political geography, such a listing is incorrect," he said.
On September 13, the Human Rights Centre "Memorial" (included by the Russian Ministry of Justice in the register of foreign agents) recognised the brothers Ismail Isaev and Salekh Magamadov as political prisoners. They were prosecuted for publicly criticising the Chechen authorities and belonging to the LGBT community.
