Kavelashvili Announces US-Georgia Relations Reset Following Trump's Victory

| News, Politics, Georgia

On February 4, Georgia's parliament opened its spring session with a speech by Mikheil Kavelashvili, the President of Georgia.

During his address, Kavelashvili stated that Georgia's relations with the United States would undergo a reset. While presenting the president's annual report in parliament, he emphasized, "It is encouraging that after Donald Trump's victory in the US, a change in the pseudo-liberal order in the world has begun. I would call it the Donald Trump effect."

Kavelashvili noted that the convergence of values provides confidence in the reset of US-Georgian relations under the new administration. He stressed that developments in the US and their global consequences reaffirmed the Georgian people's belief in the policies and values upheld by the state.

"The policy of peace, priority of national interests, protection of conservative and traditional values, strength of the family, strengthening the role of Christianity—these are the values that our state has been defending over the past decade. Obviously, these values will be at the heart of US policy in the next four years. Therefore, this coincidence of values and worldviews gives me reason to deeply believe that under the new administration, we will be able to reset and normalize relations with the United States," Kavelashvili stated.
